The Bible - the word of God

Bible Study – January 2020

The Living Water – refresh yourself in the Lord It’s January and most likely it’s very dry outside at the moment. The sun’s scorching heat has turned the grass brown and burns your skin when you spend too much time in it unprotected. Christmas, and with it a very busy time of the year, has come to an end and you probably feel quite weary! The whole country feels the same way, as most things …

The Bible - the word of God

Bible Study – December 2019

How is God talking to you? How are you finding the Advent season this year? This time leading up to Christmas, which is maybe the biggest celebration we prepare for each year, can be frantic for some. Have you been busy rushing around organising presents, food, parties and end-of-year get-togethers? Or has it been calmer for you this time? One thing we see throughout the Bible is that God is present and speaks to us …

The open bible for devotion

Devotion – January 2020

It’s a New Year. Did you make any New Year’s resolution/s? I gave up making resolutions many years ago, as I know that they are almost impossible to keep, even for a week or two. Then one feels guilty and wonders why. Even wanting to be more like Christ is impossible. However, we have a loving Saviour, Jesus, and an “empowerer”, the Holy Spirit, who can come to us every moment in our day. A …

The open bible for devotion

Devotion – December 2019

“Prepare ye the way of the Lord”, as sung in Godspell, still sends shivers through my body and, for those old enough, you may remember this song and movie. The season of Advent is now with us and we wait with anticipation for the coming of our Lord. It is a time to clear out our hearts and minds, so we will have room for the baby Jesus. Joy to the world! the Lord is …

President's Reflections

President’s Reflections – December 2019

How good is it to buy new sheets! I visited a new outlet in town only to be told that they had been there for over one year. Town to me usually means groceries and paying accounts, window shopping comes down the list. This outlet also shares the same name of an AFL iconic football brand! That was the first surprise; the second was the price of the sheets! My original set was in need of replacement after continual use over 25 years plus, and my one thought was “will …

A new Pastor for the Parkes/Forbes Parish

The Parkes/Forbes Parish recently welcomed a new pastor, James Leach, his wife and six children aged from one to sixteen. They are delighted to have a new shepherd after a vacancy of about three years. The Ladies Guild has been in recess for most of that time but, hopefully, this will not always be the case. Natural attrition, families moving away, and illness always create difficulties, but new people join the congregation, others recover from illnesses and now there is Pastor Leach preaching God’s Word and giving encouragement. Numbers are …

LWWA Fellowship Day held at St Luke’s, Parkwood

Date: 23 August 2019 Theme: 50th Jubilee celebration text Leviticus 25. Approximately 50 ladies joined together with our Bishop Mike Fulwood and spiritual advisor Pastor Glenn Crouch. Greeted by the lovely committee, we were each warmed by the sumptuous spread of morning tea. Adam Snell, one of the talented musicians, was asked to write some music to go with the poem that Angela Ziersch wrote for the 50th Jubilee convention earlier this year, which was truly amazing and touched everyone in a special way. Ronda Hahn, our LWWA president opened …

Wimmera Mallee Zone Rally, Horsham

We were welcomed to Horsham for the 53rd Zone Rally on a pleasant Thursday morning by the Horsham afternoon ladies guild president, Marie Bergen, who introduced the Mayor of the Horsham Rural City Council, Cr Mark Radford who extended a warm welcome to visitors to Horsham. He spoke about some of the highlights that he had researched about the history of Lutherans in the Horsham area. Darling Downs Zone Fellowship Day

Did you know that you are a very special person for a very special purpose? This is because of God’s various gifts to each of us through the same Spirit. Pastor Raymond Pace, from Good Shepherd, Toowoomba, reiterated this message theme through his Bible study from 1 Corinthians 12:1–11. Fifty-eight persons gathered for the Darling Downs Zone Fellowship Day, on 5 September, hosted by Good Shepherd ladies. We are all special in God’s sight, not because of our talents, skills, hopes or desires but, filled with the Holy Spirit, we …

Gladstone Fellowship 50th Anniversary

On Saturday 6 April, Gladstone Ladies Fellowship gathered together at Carol Hartwig’s home for a High Tea luncheon to celebrate 50 years since the group formed.
It was wonderful that one of the founding members, Felicity Bradford from Maleny, as well as Eunice Raymond, from Ashmore (Gold Coast) who had joined the fellowship group a couple of years later, were able to join in the celebrations. A couple members from Rockhampton fellowship also attended and enjoyed the festivities.

St Petri Ladies Guild, Nuriootpa, 90th Birthday

A fabulous, amazing, very blessed birthday meeting was held on Wednesday 11 September, 2019. Just a few of the words that were used by our ladies and guest speaker, Ruby Stodard. There were almost 50 of us including 16 visitors and two men, with lots of laughing, singing, listening, chatting, asking questions and eating, we sang Happy Birthday and we cut the cake. Pastor’s devotion focused on the women and young girls in the Bible and the ways that they served their God and Lord. He likened the ladies and …

50 years later the good things remain

Lutheran Women of Australia was in its infancy in 1969 at the tender age of three, as was our magazine. In taking a peek at what was happening then, there are many points to the argument that ‘the more things change the more they remain the same’. The president of LWA was Dulcie Held (Mrs S H Held) of Adelaide and the editor of Lutheran Women was Doris Koch (Mrs T W Koch). Lutheran Women (published bi-monthly) subscription was 90 cents per annum. The following are excerpts from our magazine in 1969.
