The Bible - the word of God

Bible Study – March 2020

“In everything give thanks” Study 2: Give thanks to God though the going is tough In 1 Thessalonians 5:18 it says, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Discuss times when it’s difficult to give thanks to God. Notice that the text doesn’t say “give thanks for all circumstances”, but “in all circumstances”. The hymn, Now thank we all our God was originally written by …

The open bible for devotion

Devotion – March 2020

“What was the last thing you heard God ask you to do … and did you do it?” I felt the Father press this question into my spirit a few weeks ago – I’d been praying for the courage to have bolder conversations. The answer to my prayer was this awkward “ice-breaker”. No witty segue or magically electrified conversation but a call to step up and risk discomfort. I’ve learned over the years that God’s …

Busy Hands and Thankful Hearts

In 2019, Lutheran Women had an article from Bethlehem Ladies Fellowship, Wagga Wagga, NSW, telling a story about their Care & Share craft group, a large amount of yarn they had, had been donated and their dilemma at what to do with it all. Here is a story of how busy hands have used the gifts they were given in goods and talents, and how many have benefited. Our craft group at Bethlehem church in Wagga …

Springton Fellowship

Springton Fellowship celebrated 80 years with a Thanksgiving Service on 23 June. Pastor Peter Ziersch’s message concluded with a pictorial of photos from the 50th, 70th and 75th celebrations, followed by a prayer of thanks for the blessings received by members, and the congregation over all these years. A complete list of office-bearers, along with activities: Bible studies, bus trips, luncheons for invited fellowships and our congregation, caterings with proceeds benefiting LWA and LWSA-NT projects …

Salisbury Women’s Fellowship

Our group of approximately 20 ladies meets on the third Wednesday of each month. We begin by reading the LWSA-NT prayer, having a short devotion, and a hymn is sung. Pastor Joel leads us in Bible Study, often basing it on the sermon for the coming weekend. Some activities we’ve enjoyed recently include: parading vintage clothes; providing morning tea for other women from our congregation, getting to know our talented new office secretary; playing table …

Finding Myself in Slovenia

It’s a curious thing how we form connections with people and places. I think about this a lot, and I don’t know that I have any answers. It’s definitely deep, and it’s definitely something experienced emotionally and spiritually. I could add physically, too, because I have felt Slovenian earth beneath my feet over hundreds of kilometres of walking paths within cities, towns and countryside: mountain paths, pilgrim paths, literary paths, river valley paths, wine paths, …

And God was there!

I grew up in a loving Christian family on a farm near Brinkworth, South Australia. Life was good even though war raged on, changing our lives in so many ways. We had rationing, our small school was closed (we found ourselves in a large school somewhat bewildered), we did fund raising and we practised drill in case of enemy attack! At home, life went on. Our church, just down the road, was the centre of …

Strathalbyn Ladies’ Fellowship Group

The Strathalbyn Ladies’ Fellowship Group meet the first Wednesday in the month. We have 20 happy, caring and enthusiastic members who attend on a regular basis. Our meetings start with a prayer and the devotion is taken from the Lutheran Women magazine followed by Bible Study, which we read from “Life Changing Bible Verses Every Women Should Know” written by Rebecca Lutzer. Highlights so far this year have been a visit to Bormann’s Turf Farm; …

LWQ Brisbane North and Sunshine Coast Zone Fellowship Day

LWQ Brisbane North and Sunshine Coast Zone ladies met at the beautiful Glasshouse Mountains on a very warm spring day 6 September 2019. Calvary Glasshouse Fellowship ladies, being the hosts, chose the theme Shackled – Set Free based on John 8:32: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Morning tea, prepared by the hosts and a time of fellowship, was enjoyed before beginning the program. President of the zone, …

Hermannsburg Adventure

One of the blessings of being retired is being able to travel at will. In 2018, my husband, Alan, and I decided to volunteer at Hermannsburg for four months. We arrived in Alice Springs on 14 April and attended church there on Sunday before heading out to Hermannsburg. We set up our van in the Historic Precinct and were greeted with the news that the manager, and his assistant, needed to be away for a …

CEFC – Blessed to be a blessing

Imagine opening the door of a Relief Centre and asking strangers for help. It would be very confronting. I keep this scenario in the forefront of my mind all the time when working in Horsham’s Christian Emergency Food Centre (CEFC). Life often seems to happen on a tightrope, just a little over-balancing one way or the other and we can fall in a heap. Often the fall is not too far and just a hand …

Operation Christmas Shoebox

The Bible Study ladies, from Hickory Road Quinn’s Rocks, hosted an inspiring afternoon of fellowship on 5 October 2019. Thirty men and women and seven children attended. The children were delighted to contribute and bring their shoeboxes that they had helped to pack for the children overseas. Rosemary Davidson welcomed all present and introduced Janet Lester who is the Good Samaritan Shoebox Co-ordinator from St John’s Lutheran Church, Perth. She was there to receive the …
