A woman with dark hair sits hugging a pillow and looks out to middle distance. She looks depressed. The room is dark apart from the light onto her white shirt and the sheets on the bed she sits on.

Domestic and Family Violence – Hidden Hurts Healing Hearts

“I didn’t know what my friend was living with … … Yes, she seemed a bit depressed, and I didn’t think much of it at first. She didn’t say anything. She was still involved in choir and her husband was active on Church Council. But over time, something changed, and she wasn’t the person I used to know. I wish I had had the courage to ask if she was okay – but I didn’t …

50 years of care in the community …

… with the ‘same coloured hearts’. The 50th anniversary of Lutheran Community Care (LCC) SA/NT is a time to celebrate and give thanks. There are the many hundreds of thousands of people who have received a ministry of care. There are the staff who have given of themselves and their skills to support those struggling or needing food, shelter and clothing, and then there are the volunteers and donors who have ensured that God’s love …

Elsie

I had seen her at school, spoken to her and found out her name was Elsie. She was eight years old and the new girl in town. Then one fine Sunday morning, in November 2018, Elsie turned up for church at 9 am with her friend Ly’xali. As they were the only two children there that Sunday, we made them feel very welcome and special. They stayed and participated in the service wherever they could. …

Bible Study – November 2019

The Year of Jubilee – Part 2 Note: before the study you may want to read all of Leviticus 25. Recap God gifted Israel with the Land. It was and always would be his! Israel was to work it and look after it, and in the process look after each other. The Sabbath was for the Rest and Restoration of the people. The Sabbath Year was for the Rest and Restoration of the Land – …

The Bible - the word of God

Bible Study – October, 2019

The Year of Jubilee – Part 1 Note: before the study you may want to read all of Leviticus 25. Introduction The word “jubilee” comes from the Hebrew word for “the trumpet” made from a ram’s horn and, as we shall see, was blown at the start of this year, which was supposed to occur every 50 years. Thus, in our culture, the term “jubilee” has often become synonymous with “50th anniversary”. The Year of …

The open bible for devotion

Devotion – November, 2019

This refrain has been with me all morning, “God is so good, Alleluia! God is so good, Alleluia! God is so good, He’s so good to me.” ATN 54 and so I know I am on the mend, but slowly. And I can continue to heal, gain strength and enjoy the warmer weather after our refreshing winter rains have washed the dry earth and given an abundance of spring growth (especially the weeds). So, as …

Devotion – October, 2019

I have just arrived home after an extended time in hospital due to a massive infection of hip and spine (May 2019) and wish to thank all who held me up with prayer. My stay meant I was hospitalised for my wedding anniversary, my birthday, Mother’s Day, Easter Services and the Lutheran Women of Western Australia 50 years celebration. However, I was able to attend much of the Saturday’s Convention. For this I was blessed …

President’s Reflection – October 2019

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Saviour, For most of us, we have gone through the period of hibernating, trying to keep warm. The winter months allow us time to do those inside jobs, catch up on mending, rearranging cupboards, even throwing out those clothes from last winter that you thought could go one more season! Now we look forward to the spring, to new life sprouting around us, trees and shrubs showing …

LWNSW Retreat, 2019

Last year marked the 50th Lutheran Women of NSW (LWNSW) Retreat, which brought back memories of retreats in the past. Since the NSW District Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre added motel style accommodation in 2008, we no longer had retreats in the Dome. In the new village, it was exciting to be in a room with an ensuite with only four women. The Dome is a round building with dormitory rooms with six bunk beds …

President’s Reflection – August 2019

I asked Jesus, “How much do you love me?” “This much,” he answered. Then he stretched out his arms and died. – Unknown In this short and simple quote, we see the beauty of Jesus’ love captured in amazing imagery of the cross. This is God’s love in full and, if I was the only person in existence, Jesus still would have done all that, just for me. Through his grace and mercy, he did …

Luther’s Germany 2017

In 2017 we were very excited to be able to join a tour group going to Germany to celebrate the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. We followed the places where Martin Luther had lived and preached and ultimately gave rise to the ‘Lutherans’. Autumn is an amazing time of year in Europe. The green countryside transforms into a full pallet of incredible colours and then later transforms into the magical white for Christmas. Our bus …
