“Hearts & Hands” Ladies Fellowship, Blair Athol

“Hearts & Hands” Ladies Fellowship, Blair Athol usually meets on the second Wednesday of each month with a group of approximately 15 ladies. Our meetings start with prayer and devotion taken from either the Lutheran Women magazine or a member’s own resource. Our year began with a meal held at a local venue, this was a great opportunity to invite friends, enjoy food (that is prepared with a night off cooking!) and fellowship. Included in …

LWSA-NT President’s Report

The 2019/2020 year began with a time of celebration, as some 30 members flew to Perth to join our LWWA sisters for their 50th Annual Convention. I trust our time with them gave them support and encouragement. Our 53rd Convention, on 18 May 2019, met with the theme Radiant with Hope. It’s special to see the joy on this day, as some 200 travel from all over the state to be together. Bishop of LCA-SA-NT, …

What is hope in a time like this?

We live in a world where you don’t need to look far to find discouragement. The current covid-19 restrictions have devastated so many. While there have been countless acts of inspiring heroism and generosity, the crisis can seem insurmountable. And that’s just one thing. A volcano erupts in the Philippines. The US threatens war with Iran. Climate conditions worsen as political leaders continue to live in denial. The list goes on. Our hearts could break …

LWNSW President’s Report

Thank you for the opportunity to let you know some of the ways we serve, share, come together and grow. Each year in March we hold a three-day retreat at Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre. Each retreat is hosted by a volunteer fellowship or group of ladies, making very diverse weekends. It is wonderful to see how God moves the hearts of these host ladies to choose themes and then focus our attention on God …

Lutheran Nurses honoured

Two Lutheran nurses have been honoured by the Lutheran Nurses Association of Australia (LNAA). Angela Uhrhane, of Wodonga, Victoria, was named the inaugural Lutheran Nurse of the Year. Lynette Wiebusch, of Adelaide, was named an honorary LNAA Life Member. The awards were officially announced on 12 May – International Nurses Day and, this year, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale. Angela is currently serving as Pastoral Care Nurse at Lutheran Aged Care …

As I see it … from Coral Boesch

The year 2020 will leave its mark on people all over the world. I wonder how generations to come will speak about it. Here, we contended with prolonged drought, floods, and widespread and devastating bushfires which threatened the lives and livelihoods of so many. Little did we realise that a further catastrophe was lurking; a challenge that the whole world would face; wholesale infection and death, often in tragic circumstances. Such changes and challenges followed! …

LWWA President’s Report

Greetings from the Ladies of Western Australia. A wonderful 50th Anniversary of the LWWA was held in May 2019 at Bethlehem Church Morley. It was a great joy to be able to welcome ladies (and several husbands) from other states. Several past presidents of LWWA were present and assembled to cut a beautifully decorated cake. Our dear President, Roslyn Zadow, was permitted to leave her hospital bed to join in for a part of the …

A tribute

Recently, I attended the funeral of my aunt and, although I was very fond of her, and a sad occasion, it was a wonderful day reminiscing about her friendly, generous nature. She was always ready to have a cup of tea with a visitor or visit with those less able. Stories of her hospitality were in every conversation.  The reason I mention these things is that she was a woman who knew who she was. …

The Princess and the Pauper Woman – Zu Bibi  (Part 2)

Peshawar, Pakistan 1997 There is a pair of well-worn, muddy shoes outside our door. On the inside, a faded shuttlecock burka hangs on a hook, and the sound of scrubbing comes from the kitchen. I look up from the rattling keys of my word processor. The thing I admire about Zu Bibi is her faithfulness. She comes across muddy fields, rain, hail or shine. She always comes. I’d never get all those letters done for …

The open bible for devotion

Devotion – July, 2020

Giver God I love singing to my friend, Jesus. I’m convinced music is one of the sweetest gifts God has given us. And not just to the “musically-inclined”! In my humble opinion a “pitchy” voice is akin to a funny laugh – an unofficial gift of the Holy Spirit, a contagious joy. My time in Indonesia, in a nutshell, was a pleasant surprise. The group of strangers I travelled with were far kinder than I …

Bible Study – July, 2020

Begin with Prayer. As a group within the LCA, Lutheran Women of Australia (LWA) is one of the biggest supporters of LCA International Mission and the work we do overseas on behalf of the church. What projects can you name that LWA support? (If you’re struggling to recall them all, have a look at the amazing list inside the cover of this magazine!) Each of these projects helps our partner churches proclaim the good news …
