Lifeway Women’s Fellowship – Epping, NSW

The Lifeway Women’s Fellowship at Epping consists of those who are able to meet during the week and members who cannot, for one reason or another, attend daytime meetings, but who like to keep up with the excellent articles and news in Lutheran Women. Some time ago, we tried three Saturday afternoon meetings at the suggestion of a member who worked fulltime. Unfortunately, it wasn’t successful, as those who work have many commitments and found it …

Gilgandra/Dubbo Fellowship NSW

On the first Wednesday of each month, the ladies of Gilgandra/Dubbo Fellowship meet together for Bible study and fellowship. Two meetings are held in Gilgandra, and the rest in Dubbo, with an average of ten to twelve ladies attending. We are happy that two, sometimes three, ladies travel from Parkes to join with us. We were blest with the arrival of Pastor Joseph Graham in our parish at the beginning of the year, followed by his …

Service with a smile

As the age of the population increases, so does the need for more aged care villages. More recently, greater diversity in the aged care sector has seen a greater offer of independent living, hostel or semi-dependent living, general nursing home care and secure nursing home facilities. The variety and scope provided is as varied as the number of operators providing these facilities. Our readers are sure to be aware of the many aged care facilities …

Face to Face becomes Messages of Hope

“Work has started to become very stressful as the pressure is on, I get married in 3 and a half weeks and I have just taken on my step daughter full time (my partner works fly in fly out).” – (A response to one of your Messages of Hope) Reaching out to people with the good news of Jesus Christ is our united call from God. Media gives us opportunities to share that good news with …

A dark Sudanese woman's hand is spread over some fabric while she sews decorative stitching on a sewing machine.

One stitch at a time

It’s six years since my mum passed away. Last weekend my sister helped dad go through mum’s boxes of sewing stuff. Mum loved quilting and collected pieces far and wide. Dad had the job of cutting them into whatever shape was needed. He’d grumble, but secretly loved working together with mum. Recently, I’ve been helping the Lutheran Community Sewing Group at Albert Park in Adelaide put together a video about their volunteer ministry to new neighbours …

A God Given Gift – St John’s South Sudanese Fellowship

St John’s congregation in Geelong has been blessed to have a group of South Sudanese come to us, over ten years ago, to worship with us. They found us, we did not find them. These Nuer speakers were part of a Lutheran Church in South Sudan and Ethiopia, and also had contact with Lutheran World Service in the refugee camps. Over the years the number of refugees has grown, and there is now a group …

Where love comes to life … on a cold winter’s night.

It’s getting late on a cold winter’s afternoon. The sun is dipping below the hills and the temperature is plummeting – another frosty night. People are heading home to turn on the heating, crank up the electric blanket and prepare a hearty, hot meal. Then they will lock their doors and go to bed without a second thought as to whether they will be safe through the night. But imagine there’s no home to go …

Bags “Made with love by Maureen”

In 2018, LWSA-NT had their convention at Victor Harbor, which I attended. A report in the LWSA-NT Tidings newsletter said that Alice Springs Lutheran Community Care (LCC) Op Shop were giving away homemade fabric bags to people with their items purchased from the Op shop. I did not give this a lot of thought until I visited a craft market on the Fleurieu Peninsula, where a stall had bags made from Op shop pillowcases. They looked simple and easy to make. Just right for me to make while caravanning.
Read how Maureen’s industrious idea is showing God’s love.

The Bible - the word of God

Bible Study – July 2019

INTRODUCTION In our last Bible study, we talked about the plan God had for Isaac and Rebekah. It turned out their love was real and inspired by God. They trusted his judgement and they fell in love in a short space of time and were married. But not everyone is blessed with the gift of a life partner. The truth is that sometimes God calls us to be single. As a matter of fact, the …

The Bible - the word of God

Bible Study – June 2019

INTRODUCTION In Christian marriage, the union between a man and a woman is instituted and ordained by God in the lifelong relationship between one man, as husband, and one woman as wife. Have you ever found yourself wondering why a certain person you know isn’t married yet? Have you ever gone so far as to ask a single person why they’re not married? The question of who is married and who is not and why, …

The open bible for devotion

Devotion – July 2019

Do you have a song which, after hearing it again, remains on your mind and in your head for days, even weeks? You find yourself singing it silently, sometimes aloud. One that especially comes to me is, ‘What can wash away my sin’. I try to work out if it is the words, the music, the combination of the two, or the truths in the song: What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the …

The open bible for devotion

Devotion – June 2019

At church today, I was reminded of our wedding 47 years ago by the entry Psalm 37:1-18 but especially our chosen verses 37:3-5. Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord trust in him and he will give you this. At the time, when I was young …
