Zion Women’s Fellowship, Angaston

The Zion Women’s Fellowship, Angaston is a group of 12 women who are dedicated, cheerful, well-organised, and always willing to help.

We were delighted to welcome Pastor Rob Borgas and his wife, Kriss, in 2018, who have come to us from Alice Springs. Their unique experiences in central Australia have opened our eyes to a different perspective from life in a predominantly German culture.

Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month, with a devotion and Bible study its priority. The studies have been led by various pastors, and our former secretary, Glenda Oberscheidt, before Pastor Rob’s installation. Meetings are usually followed by some fun, like playing mini golf, board games, sharing photographs of ourselves in former years and, of course, afternoon tea. Each year we invite the local Barossa groups to a meeting where we have an opening devotion, guest speaker, morning tea and trading table. Catering for funerals continues, as does the making of honey biscuits, supplying birthing kits (80 over the past two years), and any monies raised are used to support LWA/LWSA-NT projects, and Zion Church.

Over the past two years, four Opportunity Shops, each running for five days, were held in Zion Hall, and raising over $8,500 for the Barossa branch of LCC. This event has required many hours of sorting, setting up, pricing goods, and then spending hours each day behind the counter welcoming visitors and keeping the displays neat and well ordered.

Each year the Fellowship supports Good Shepherd Lutheran School in Angaston by presenting new students each with a Bible.

In November 2019, we celebrated our 80th birthday with a Thanksgiving Service followed by lunch for invited guests and congregation members. The birthday cake was cut by our long-serving member, Lois Lablack.

We hosted World Day of Prayer on 6 March 2020 where we had two guest speakers, Terryson Chishaya from Zimbabwe and now an Australian, living in the Barossa Valley, and Julie Krause of ALWS. Over a 100 people were present and $1,020 was raised. There was an abundant supper provided by our girls.

Our Fellowship is a delightful, supportive group of girls who enjoy meeting and working together. I commend them to your prayers.
