He Cares for you.
September is always the beginning of spring for me, where there is the promise of new growth, new beginnings, new life, and freshness after the winter rains have washed away some of the dirt of accumulated sins.
This is another time where we can come before our Saviour Jesus Christ and ask to be made new again; to seek him and ask for forgiveness. When the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives we can turn towards the sun ‘Son’.
What a wondrous time is spring
When all the trees are budding.
The birds begin to sing,
The flowers start their blooming
That’s how it is with God’s love:
Once you’ve experienced it.
You want to sing, its fresh like spring.
You want to pass it on. (AT 83 v2)
The bulbs in the ground are sending out their cheerful sweet-smelling flowers. The birds are finding their mate to build nests and start their new life again, as they raise their glad tunes of joy to the Lord.
Matthew 6:26a, 28b Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. … Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither spin nor weave …
Jesus then goes on to tell us not to be anxious about anything, food or drink or what to wear; as he cares for you and me. What a wonderful promise this is. We now have it knowing that he is with us and cares for us and, like the song, we want to pass it on. To our family, children, friends and neighbours as well.
One of the difficulties I found while working in New Guinea was the lack of a winter-like season and, so, not a spring-like season to have new beginnings. My experience was wet, warm, windy or the doldrums, which was also wet; our rain gauge measured over 400 inches each year for three years I was there, there was much growth due to the warmth, rain, rich soil and sunshine. The abundant growth always amazed me, and the trimming of bushes only added to the growth.
The people whom I worked with in New Guinea also amazed me. They had a simple life as gardeners but they had embraced Christianity with a wonderful faith, trusting in him. Many younger children, being musical, learnt a new song I taught them, and, within a month, they were singing it in many parts. The old testament folk song was quickly taken into their lives and built on their faith in Jesus.
Prayer: Dear Lord we thank you for caring for us. May we be renewed each day. Because of his love and forgiveness, we want to pass it on. Amen.
